Paula Cole has a new album out called Courage. Indeed, Paula is famous for the song which is the title of this blog entry, but it's my least favorite song, I just like the title. If you've never heard Paula Cole, go take a listen because her voice will blow you away as will her righteous lyrics. Hush, Hush, Hush is an absolute brilliant song which Annie Lennox sang on Herbie Hancock's Possibilities CD, another must have.
So, it's been 15 days since Hazel left us. It seems like each day brings a new way of missing her. For instance, the past couple of days, I've really missed her companionship. She was my buddy. I could walk through parks, go hiking or take a long, long walk and I always felt safe because she was right there by my side. I read somewhere that dogs often tell us what is best for us if we can just listen and I know that the many times Hazel was begging for a walk it was because she knew I really needed it.
It's weird, I keep expecting her to come back--like she's been on a trip or something.

No doubt, Hazel had a great long life but we had so much left to do together! There's this new lake thingy in our hood that I wanted to take her to and this other pond on my way to work that I thought she'd love and of course, to meet Chickadee and be her/his nanny! So many plans for that wonderful dog. At least we had just been on one of those long long walks--just two days before. She loved it. On those longer walks, I'd carry my CamelBak so that we could both have water. Hazel learned how to position herself just right so that I could aim the stream of water into her mouth. As a matter of fact, I must have learned how to do that at this moment:
That's me feeding a fawn at my grandparents ranch, circa 1964.So, it's Friday night. It's been a long week and Lanell is doing overnight care tonight for a new mother with post-partum depression. I hope it all goes well. I told Chickadee that I wouldn't be sleeping with them tonight but to stay close to mama and have sweet dreams. Do unborn babies have dreams?
I'm grateful for: The experiences I have had that help me be compassionate.
I'm feeling: The need to paint.
